The Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations apply to the handling, shipping, transporting and importing of dangerous goods throughout Canada by any mode of transport.

The U.S. Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR) cover the transportation of dangerous goods in the United States.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has issued the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code) which is used in both Canada and the United States for international dangerous goods shipments by the marine mode.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has regulations that, together with operator requirements are included in the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations. Both Canada and the United States use these regulations to ship dangerous goods by air, both domestically and internationally.
